The United States Geological Survey recently shared a report about a 6.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the southwestern shores of Samoa. The earthquake occurred 314 kilometres below the earth’s surface and 400 kilometres from Samoa’s southwestern coastline. Though the effect of the earthquake was powerful, both the Samoa Meteorological Services and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre have confirmed that there are no injuries or damage.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has also mentioned that there are no tsunami threats. As per the reports, it is said that the recent earthquake was powerful and if it had occurred near the surface or populated areas, then it might have caused major destruction.

Samoa is located in the “Ring of Fire”, where natural disasters like earthquakes and tsunamis are normal. People living in this region are used to it. But thankfully, all these disasters occur away from the cities and less-populated areas, causing no major harm to the citizens.

Back in 2009, this island nation felt the tsunami hitting the shores. The tsunami was generated because of the two powerful earthquakes, and 192 deaths were reported. It included 149 casualties in Samoa, nine in Tonga, and 34 in American Samoa.
