Now, rising water levels in the Budhi Gandaki River have caused flooding in Nepal’s Gorkha district, damaging homes and bridges. Scroll down for the details!

Rising Water Levels Trigger Flooding In Nepal

In Nepal, the rising water levels in the Budhi Gandaki River caused flooding. The recent flood swept away six bridges and damaged several villages and nearby areas. As per The Times Of India, at least 10 people have gone missing after the flood hit northern Gorkha around 4 AM on Sunday. To find the missing people and assess the damage, authorities have deployed rescue teams.

Among the six bridges swept away, two were motorable bridges and four were suspension bridges. The Arughat, Tripurasundari and Soti–Manbu bridges were among those damaged or destroyed. The floods also washed away a Bailey bridge that connected Wards 1 and 3 of Dharche Rural Municipality. Footbridges connecting Machhikhola to Karauja, Thadobharyang to Jagat, and Ghattekhola to Philim were also affected. Along with nearly 35 houses, the Nepal floods also damaged a hydropower project.

Water Level Goes Above Danger Mark

Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) shared the details on rising water levels. According to NDTV report, the river’s water level rose from 3.66 metres at 6:30 AM to 8.43 metres at 8:40 AM. The danger mark was 5 metres.

What Caused River Water Level To Rise?

According to the NDRRMA, the river may have been blocked for some time before the blockage broke. This might have released a large amount of water, causing the flood. The agency said rainfall did not cause the flooding, and authorities are still trying to determine the exact cause.

To search for the missing people, the Nepal Army deployed teams by air and land. The teams also conducted aerial surveys to check the damage. They rescued six people and moved them to safe places.

We hope the situation gets under control soon!
