Nepal Floods: Indian Embassies Issue Helpline Numbers & Advisories As 133 Indians Go Missing

Catastrophic flash floods and mudslides struck northern Nepal near the Tibet border on August 26, 2026, leaving nearly 160 people dead and hundreds missing. The Indian Embassy in Kathmandu has now issued emergency numbers for assistance and information regarding missing Indian nationals affected by the natural disaster.

Indian Embassies Issue Helpline Numbers For Nepal Flash Floods Assistance

Nearly 160 people have lost their lives in the Nepal flash flood tragedy, which washed away villages and damaged properties and vehicles. According to The Hindu, over 750 people, including 133 Indian nationals, are currently reported to be missing. Many of them are tourists and pilgrims travelling towards Mount Kailash for their yatra. 

The Indian Embassy in China and Nepal have now shared helpline numbers. These numbers are for information and assistance for those who may be stranded in or around the areas impacted by the tragic floods.

  • Chinese officials on the ground: 0086 139 8999 0012
  • Embassy of India, Kathmandu: +977 985 131 6807 and +977 970 910 7500. Both numbers can also be contacted through WhatsApp.
  • Embassy of India, Beijing: 0086 185 1428 4905. This number can also be contacted through WhatsApp.

Officials Are Closely Monitoring The Situation

The Embassy of India in Beijing is in close touch with local authorities to assist Indian nationals. On the other hand, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu is also continuously working on rescue and relief efforts for Indian nationals in coordination with the Government of Nepal. People are advised to remain patient and keep an eye on all the official advisories released by the embassies. Not just that, but the officials have also advised to avoid all non-essential travel to the affected areas. 

The Indian government is closely monitoring the flood situation in Nepal. According to The Indian Express, India has handed over 10 tonnes of humanitarian aid to Nepal to support relief efforts following the devastating floods. Citizens from countries like the US, Australia, Britain, Canada, South Korea, Malaysia, Russia and China are also missing.
