While being felicitated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at a cyber-awareness event in Mumbai, the comedian turned his past association with the Maharashtra Cyber Cell into a hilarious joke. According to India Today, Samay Raina attended the launch of the cyber-awareness short film Digital Arrest and the 1930 Maharashtra Cyber Anthem. He was among several celebrities who contributed to the initiative, including Pankaj Tripathi, Ashish Vidyarthi, Sharad Kelkar, Sonali Bendre, Javed Jaffrey, Mangesh Desai and singer Sunidhi Chauhan.
After receiving the felicitation from Fadnavis, Raina thanked the Chief Minister before joking about his “long-standing” relationship with Maharashtra Cyber. Referring to the 1930 cybercrime helpline, he said that he had actually saved the number on his phone because he often gets calls from there, referring to the controversy surrounding his YouTube show India’s Got Latent.
Rather than shy away from the awkward history, the comedian decided to make it part of his speech, and his comic timing had Fadnavis and those present at the event laughing. He went on to praise the Maharashtra Cyber Cell for its efficiency, joking about how effectively it can track people down.
