Recently, the co-founder of Noma, Rene Redzepi, has stepped down from the three Michelin-starred Copenhagen restaurant after alleged reports surfaced accusing him of an abusive work environment. The chef recently took to his Instagram handle to share his resignation speech.

On March 12, Rene Redzepi shared his resignation speech via an Instagram video, in which he apologised to his team for the situation and called them his family. In the video, he stated, “I am not running away from any responsibility for how I have been,” and he stated that he is “protecting everyone here”.
The Copenhagen restaurant holds three Michelin stars and continues to operate after the chef resigned. In the caption, he wrote, “I have worked to be a better leader, and Noma has taken big steps to transform the culture over many years. I recognise these changes do not repair the past. An apology is not enough; I take responsibility for my own actions.”
He added that he has also resigned from the board of MAD, the organisation he founded in 2011. He wrote, “After more than two decades of building and leading this restaurant, I’ve decided to step away and allow our extraordinary leaders to now guide the restaurant into its next chapter. I have also resigned from the board of MAD, the non-profit organisation I founded in 2011.”

He also revealed that the restaurant will continue its operations: “The Noma team today is the strongest and most inspiring it has ever been. We’ve been open for 23 years, and I’m incredibly proud of our people, our creativity, and the direction Noma is heading. This team will carry forward together into our LA residency, which will be a powerful moment for them to show what they’ve been working toward and to welcome guests to something truly special.”
René Redzepi Accused Of Toxic Work Environment
As per a report by NDTV, Rene Redzepi’s resignation came after The New York Times published a report claiming years of toxic work environment at Noma. In the report, around 35 former Noma staff members described incidents where René Redzepi misbehaved with the staff. The employees recalled episodes of both verbal and physical abuse, like yelling, public humiliations, and even hitting team members.
