Rare King Crab Spotted In Thailand’s UNESCO Heritage Park; Officials Call It “Precious Gift From Nature”

In Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan National Park, a rare bright purple-coloured crab species was spotted, stunning the world. Officials described it as “a precious gift from nature” and named it after Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Crabs are found worldwide, but nature has given Thailand a “precious gift.” Park rangers spotted a rare bright purple crab species in Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan National Park. As per the park rangers, this crab variety is extremely rare. Scroll down to know more about these rare crabs. 

Rare Crabs In Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan National Park

As per a Hindustan Times report, purple crabs are rare in the world, but Thailand’s Kaeng Krachan National Park is now home to this precious gift. UNESCO has listed this park as a World Heritage Site for its rich biodiversity. Various photos of these rare crabs have gone viral on the internet. Officials have said that they captured a last glimpse of the “King Crab,” also known as the “Sirindhorn Crab.” 

These rare crabs are named after Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, in her honour. She inaugurated the Natural History Museum at Chulalongkorn University. They are often called “Princess” or “Sirindhorn”. With their striking white and purple shades, these crabs look truly spectacular.

As per media reports, these rare crab species have white shells and claws with contrasting walking legs, eye sockets, and mouth parts in purple and black. The Kaeng Krachan National Park mentioned that, spotting these rare species is memorable and it also shows the ecosystem’s good health and proper condition of the national park.

More About These Crabs 

As per the Popular Science journal, these crab belongs to the panda crab family. They usually have black and white colours, but spotting a purple one is very rare. As per some reports, the first time these species were spotted was in 1986 at Ngao Waterfall National Park. The bright purple colour of crab is developed by chance, and there is no scientific reason behind it. It just acts as a visual for recognition.

As the photos of these purble crabs went viral, online users are finding it hard to believe them. The crabs’ beauty have mesmerised people.

You can visit Kaeng Krachan National Park and spot various wildlife like bears, deer, cobras, elephants, and a myriad of bird species as well. Besides that, you can also explore caves, enjoy camping and hiking.
