Super Typhoon Ragasa: Emirates Cancels Flights to Hong Kong & Shenzhen

Super typhoon Ragasa has been dubbed as the strongest typhoon on earth this year, and as it barrels through the Northern Philippines towards Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Southern China, people are being evacuated. Not just that, airports are being closed and flights are also being diverted. In fact, Emirates has also cancelled all its flights for the next three days to Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

As revealed in a report by the Gulf News, Emirates, which is a Dubai-based carrier, announced on Monday, September 22, that 11 flights have been cancelled. Yes, it would ground these 11 flights between September 23rd and 25th. This also includes its daily services to Hong Kong International Airport and Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport. The development comes at a time when typhoon Ragasa was expected to make landfall on September 23-24.

Customers Can Rebook Their Flights

Not just this, but the airline’s shuttle service between Hong Kong and Bangkok has also been suspended. For those who are wondering, Emirates operates 14 weekly flights to Hong Kong and seven flights to Shenzhen. As a result, the airline has advised its customers to contact their travel agents for re-booking. They can also reach out to Emirates directly if they have booked through the carrier’s website or through their app.

Talking about super typhoon Ragasa, it has been recognised as the strongest typhoon in the world this year. With the typhoon threatening Hong Kong, authorities are taking special measures to ensure people are safe. After all, it’s expected that the typhoon will bring destructive winds that may exceed 185 km/h and torrential rainfall. In fact, Hong Kong has cancelled classes and shut schools in preparation for the super typhoon. As such, over 500 Cathay Pacific flights have been affected due to the disruption caused by the storm, which is expected to head towards Northern Vietnam and China.
