Authorities Yet To Determine The Cause Of The Fire
Authorities have now launched an investigation into the incident. According to the Thai Prime Minister, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined. He said a musician performing at the pub told investigators that he noticed smoke coming from a circuit breaker near the stage shortly before the electricity failed. Moments later, an explosion was heard, and the venue quickly filled with thick smoke. Several victims were also found in the restrooms at the back of the pub.
This is not the first time Thailand has witnessed a deadly pub fire. In 2022, a blaze at a music venue in eastern Thailand claimed 14 lives and injured several others. The country’s deadliest nightclub tragedy, however, occurred in 2009, when a fire at Bangkok’s Santika nightclub during New Year celebrations killed 66 people and injured more than 200 after an indoor fireworks display ignited the building.
