A Turkish Airlines plane recently caught fire at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. The incident forced an emergency evacuation of all passengers and crew members. On the morning of May 11, 2026, a Turkish Airlines aircraft, flight TK 726, caught fire at Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. According to The Times of India, there were 278 passengers and 11 crew members on board, and all of them were evacuated safely. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident happened at approximately 6:45 am as the flight from Istanbul touched down on the runway.

Ground observers and airport officials reported seeing visible flames and smoke coming from the right landing gear of the aircraft during landing. However, the fire was contained, and everyone remained safe. The passenger manifest also included several United Nations officials travelling to Kathmandu. Flight Operations Halted At The Airport

According to The Mirror, authorities at the airport were forced to halt all domestic and international flights. Possible causes behind the fire in the right main landing gear could include a hard landing, tyre pressure issues, or other technical problems.

Reportedly, passengers were evacuated using emergency slides. The aircraft has now been grounded for repair and maintenance. A team will investigate the matter, and a detailed inquiry will be carried out.

Moreover, hotel arrangements have been made for passengers scheduled to depart from Kathmandu. Officials are also preparing to send travellers to their destinations on alternative flights. This was undoubtedly scary, but fortunately, everyone is reported to be safe.
