The festival we’ve all been waiting for is almost here! Holi, the festival of colours, brings everyone together to celebrate and let go of old grudges. Curious about when Holi is this year and why it’s so special? Don’t worry, we’ve got all the important details you need to know!
When Will Holi Be Celebrated?
Get ready, because Holika Dahan is happening on March 3, 2026! This festival is also known as Holika Deepak or Chhoti Holi. According to the Vedic calendar, the best time to perform Holika Dahan is during Pradosh Kaal. It begins after sunset, while Purnima Tithi is in effect. Bhadra, a certain lunar period, affects the timing. Holika Dahan should be done after Bhadra is over. Bhadra Punchha is considered the preferable timing, and Bhadra Mukha should be strictly avoided.
Mark your calendars! In 2026, Purnima Tithi begins at 5:55 pm on March 2 and lasts until 5:07 pm on March 3. The perfect Holika Dahan Muhurat is from 6:41 pm to 9:07 pm, and the ideal Bhadra Punchha falls between 1:25 am and 2:35 am on March 3. Following these timings makes the ritual truly auspicious. And the fun doesn’t stop there—Holi, or Dhulandi, will light up the next day, March 4, with colours, laughter, and celebrations everywhere.

Why Is Holi Celebrated?
Holi is a festival that celebrates good winning over evil, based on the story of Prahlada and Holika. It also welcomes spring and says goodbye to winter. People come together, forgive each other, and have fun. Holi also honours the playful love of Radha and Krishna, spreading happiness and unity everywhere.
Holi isn’t just one festival—it’s celebrated differently across India! In Mathura and Vrindavan, it’s all about Krishna and Radha’s playful love, with flower petals adding the colour. Barsana is famous for the fun Lathmar Holi, where women playfully chase men with sticks. Everywhere, Holi spreads love, laughter, and togetherness.
