During this time, all trekking, sightseeing, and outdoor activities on the mountain will be suspended. Reportedly, the closure aligns with the sacred Karya Ida Bhatara Turun Kabeh (IBTK). This is considered one of the most significant religious events on the island and often takes place at Besakih Temple, which is located on the slopes of Mount Agung and is also called Bali’s ‘Mother Temple’.
