UAE Announced Islamic New Year Holiday Dates For Private Sector

Islamic New Year

All UAE private sector workers will be entitled to a paid vacation on Saturday, July 30, 2022, in observance of the Islamic New Year, 1444 AH, according to a statement from the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE). This is in keeping with the UAE Cabinet’s directive to equalise vacations for the public and private sectors in 2021 and 2022. Let’s know more about this Holiday.

What is Islamic New Year Known For?

On the first of Hijri, the Islamic New Year, the Prophet Mohammed moved from Mecca to Madinah. The Gregorian calendar adjusts Islamic festivals every year since the Islamic calendar is lunar. In 2022, the holiday will fall on a weekend, on Saturday, July 30. This will help those who work weekends in the hospitality and retail industries the most.

The Islamic New Year is based on the lunar calendar, as opposed to the Gregorian New Year, which is based on the solar system. The first month in the Islamic calendar is called Muharram.

When Are The Next Public Holidays?

It will be the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday in 2022, which is on October 8, before the next major official holiday is Islamic New Year. This year, October 8 falls on a Saturday, meaning it’s just another two-day weekend in October.

A four-day weekend will be there after that for the last public holiday of the year. Commemoration Day and National Day fall on the first two days of December. Since these days come on a Thursday and Friday in 2022, you’ll have a four-day weekend to look forward to.
