The UAE police have a special message for motorists. The scorching summer heat can get to you and that means you need to be extra careful while driving. But, that’s something we’re all aware about.
The UAE police made an announcement about vehicle safety during summer and it’s definitely something you must make a note of. The soaring temperatures can cause vehicle tyres to burst or get worn-out. This can in turn lead to serious accidents on the road. The police have cautioned motorists to regularly check tyres in order to avoid any unfortunate incidents.
Last year, a bus in Abu Dhabi toppled over after the tyre burst due to the hot road surface. Traffic authorities have also identified the cause of the tyre burst to be high pressure, bad quality and storage. Drivers have also been urged to check the car tyre pressure regularly, as the pressure is known to increase in hot weather conditions.
What Else?
The Dubai police have launched a new road safety policy which allows motorists to get 100% discount on their existing traffic fines.
Drive without committing any road offenses for a year and you can have your records wiped out. The new initiative is in response to the Year of Tolerance and directives from HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
The Discounts
- Drivers who do not commit any traffic violations for three months can obtain a reduction of 25 per cent of their current fines
- Drivers who do not commit any traffic violations for six months can obtain a reduction of 50 per cent of their current fines
- Drivers who do not commit any traffic violations for nine months can obtain a reduction of 75 per cent of their current fines
- Drivers who do not commit any traffic violations for 12 months can obtain a reduction of 100 per cent of their current fines
