Uber released its latest edition of the Intercity Ride Index revealing a set of interesting points to note. It includes the compilation of annual data on the ride-hailing service provider’s Intercity mobility service. The biggest highlight is the overall year-to-date number of trips booked this year. Well, Uber witnessed a record of the highest number of Intercity trip bookings in 2024. This is surely a key feather to the ride-hailing app’s cap of achievements.
Uber Reported The Highest-Ever Intercity Trips This Year
According to information provided by Uber’s recent Intercity Ride Index, the overall Intercity trips have exceeded all the highest numbers recorded in previous years. Which external influences boosted the significant growth this year? The surge in travellers’ penchant for travel, short getaways, vacations, and developments in Indian road infrastructure are some of the primary reasons for uplifting the numbers.
Impressive and transformative advancements in developments for national highways and expressways nationwide play a crucial role in cutting down travel time. Travellers enjoy travelling on roads and long-distance trips seem convenient and hassle-free due to these improvements.
As per the data revealed by Uber, most Indians chose weekends for Intercity trips and travel diaries. Quite understandably, Sunday recorded the most number of trip bookings. It has been followed by Saturday and Friday, respectively.
This year, Mumbai – Pune has topped India’s Intercity routes list. The top 3 rankings include:

- Delhi – Agra
- Bangalore – Mysore

March, May, June, August, and September recorded the most number of Uber Intercity trip bookings on weekends. These months reported the surge because of these festivals and holidays:
- Holi long weekend in March
- Buddha Purnima long weekend and summer holiday in May
- Eid long weekend and summer vacation in June
- Independence Day long weekend in August
- Long weekends for Onam/Ganesh Chaturthi and Eid in September
