Uganda Airlines, the country’s flag carrier, is in talks to launch a direct route connecting Delhi and Chennai to Uganda within the next three months. They are in talks with the relevant authorities. Uganda Airlines To Launch Two Direct Flight Services

Lenny Malasi, the airline’s country manager, estimated that it would take three months for approvals. Only after this can they begin operating direct flights from Uganda to Delhi and Chennai.

Lenny Malasi said in an interview with Moneycontrol that Uganda Airlines had started its new service with an introductory price of $450 between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai and Entebbe International Airport in Uganda.

With 45,000 Indians living in Uganda, thousands of Ugandan students studying there, and many Ugandans flying there for medical treatment, he continued, India represents a sizable market for Uganda Airlines.

As travel time between the two nations will be shortened from nine hours to five and a half, the airline forecasts increased traffic on its Mumbai-Entebbe route in the coming years. On October 7, Uganda Airlines will launch its Entebbe-Mumbai service. Uganda Airlines will operate three flights per week on this route using its widebody Airbus A330-800. (as per Moneycontrol)

Based on booking data, there were about 44,000 roundtrip passengers on point-to-point flights prior to the epidemic in 2019, and the majority of them traveled with Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa.

There will be 210 economy seats, 20 business class seats, and 28 premium economy seats available on the service. The first flight from Uganda, UR 430, will take off from Entebbe on October 7; the return flight, UR 431, will take off from Mumbai on October 8.

The airline will run its flights on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from Entebbe to Mumbai, with the return flights running on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

The direct service between Entebbe and Mumbai becomes Uganda Airlines’ second overseas route after Dubai. With the majority of the routes being regional, it also becomes the national carrier’s eleventh destination.

At the moment, Uganda Airlines offers service to Dubai, Johannesburg, Bujumbura, Nairobi, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Juba, and Kinshasa. (as per Moneycontrol)
