The Lalbaug flyover, once a vital artery for southbound traffic in Mumbai, has deteriorated into a dangerous route, particularly for motorcyclists. The stretch, which spans 2.5 kilometres, has become notorious for its uneven surface. This is the result of poor-quality repairs that were meant to address pothole issues but have instead created a treacherous driving experience.

According to an article that was recently published by mid-day, commuters report that the substandard patchwork has left the road bumpy and perilously slippery. Two-wheeler riders frequently struggle to maintain control as their vehicles skid on the uneven surface.
Many are forced to swerve constantly between lanes to avoid the worst patches, significantly increasing collision risks. Residents of the nearby Parsi Colony have been voicing their concerns for over a year with little response from authorities.
The flyover repairs included adding an approximately five-centimetre layer to the road surface, creating dangerous level changes that force riders to make sudden course corrections — a particular hazard for motorcyclists.

Complaints Yield Little To No Response From Authorities
Complaints about the quality of materials used in the repairs are widespread. Regular users describe the surface as exceptionally slippery, creating a persistent fear of accidents during daily commutes. The physical toll on commuters is mounting.
A number of people reported developing chronic back pain and worsening pre-existing joint problems due to the constant jolting experienced while traversing the flyover. The problems began after last year’s monsoon season.
With the upcoming rainy season approaching, residents fear conditions will deteriorate further. The prospect of increased moisture on an already slippery surface has heightened safety concerns throughout the community.
A local municipal corporation representative has acknowledged these issues and stated that remedial work is planned. According to the official, a tender will be issued, and road levelling work will be completed before the arrival of the monsoon rains.
