Ahead of the Union Budget, a tradition of the Halwa ceremony is followed annually, marking the final stage of the budget preparation process. It will be celebrated this year too and here’s all you need to know about this particular event.

The entire nation’s eyes are on the Union Budget 2025 to know the official announcements and how these decisions will change or affect businesses, the economy, and more. Ahead of the final day, a special ritual of the Halwa ceremony is commemorated and the same event’s preparations are ongoing currently. Citizens’ anticipation is building for knowing what will unfold during the budget announcements.

This mandatory annual tradition signifies the last stage of every year’s Budget preparation. This year, North Block in the Central Secretariat will host special arrangements on January 24.

During the ceremony on Friday evening, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will lead the event and the Union Budget’s concluding preparations.

The Halwa ceremony is not just another event for preparing this Indian dessert at the North Block. Rather, it presents crucial stages of every year’s budget. It showcases the commencement of the important ‘lock-in’ phase of the Union Budget preparation. Another necessary guideline is that no officials can get out of the North Block till the Union Budget is complete and bestowed in the Parliament.

Who Will Attend The Ceremony?

Scheduled to be hosted in North Block, Minister of State Pankaj Chaudhary will be present at the ceremony venue this evening. Senior officials, secretaries, budget officers, and staff will attend the event too. One of the major highlights of the ceremony is making halwa in a huge kadhai in the presence of attendees.

Next, the Finance Minister will cook the preparation for some time and serve the dessert to the concerned individuals contributing to preparing the Union Budget.
