United Airlines Flight Loses Tyre During Take-Off

A Japan-bound United Airlines flight from San Francisco lost a tyre during take-off recently. This mishap forced the flight to make an emergency landing in Los Angeles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200, was carrying 235 passengers, 10 flight attendants, and four pilots. Thankfully, there have been no casualties reported during this mishap.

The airlines confirmed this incident and issued a statement. They also reassured the passengers and confirmed arranging “a new aircraft to continue” their journey forward. The spokesperson further stated, “The 777-200 has six tires on each of its two main landing gear struts. The aircraft is designed to land safely with missing or damaged tires.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will investigate the incident and issue a report to learn more about what caused the mishap. This week is surely hectic for United Airlines. Earlier this week, a San Francisco-bound flight experienced an engine failure over the Pacific Ocean. They had to make an emergency landing to avoid any further damage.

Unfortunately, the aircraft’s tyre landed in San Francisco’s parking lot and caused damage to several cars. According to an airport official, the tyre debris landed in the “on-airport employee parking lot, causing damage to several vehicles.” Thankfully, there were no casualties here as well. The airport authorities had to shut down the runway for some time to clear out the debris left behind after the incident. It did not affect any airport operations after that.
