The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has now issued a severe heatwave warning for Delhi and parts of North India from May 18 to May 22. This means temperatures can rise sharply, and the weather in the capital is expected to get much warmer. Here’s everything you need to know about the alert and how to stay safe during the heatwave.
Heatwave Alert Across Delhi & Parts Of North India
IMD, India’s weather department, has forecast heatwave conditions across several regions, including Delhi and the northern parts of the country. The temperature in Delhi is expected to touch 44°C. According to Business Standard, residents of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Chhattisgarh should expect discomfort and warmer weather till May 22.
The alert follows the movement of hot and dry northwesterly winds from Rajasthan. These winds are one of the main reasons temperatures are rising across Delhi and several other regions. Not just that, but according to IMD, hot and humid conditions are also expected to persist across other parts of North and Central India during this period.
