Dev Deepawali, or the ‘Diwali of the Gods’, is celebrated 15 days after Diwali. It falls on Kartik Purnima, which is a full moon day. Yesterday, on November 5, the festival was celebrated with lights and grandeur in Varanasi. Thousands of diyas were lit along the Ganga ghats, and sacred rituals were performed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to his X account to extend his wishes. 

The Holy City Of Varanasi Lit Up For Dev Deepawali Celebrations 


The sacred city of Varanasi was illuminated by thousands of diyas yesterday for the auspicious occasion of Dev Deepawali. PM Modi also shared pictures on his Instagram and wrote, “The sacred city of Baba Vishwanath is today illuminated by the unparalleled radiance of Dev Deepavali. Along the banks of Mother Ganga, millions of lamps lit on the ghats of Kashi carry wishes for happiness and prosperity for all. This divinity and grandeur are enchanting to everyone’s mind and soul. Heartfelt wishes to all of you on Dev Deepavali. Har-Har Mahadev!”

The grandeur was such that the entire city looked not only beautiful but divine. The pictures shared by the Prime Minister showed breathtaking decorations along the Ganga ghats, where thousands of devotees had gathered. Firecrackers also lit up the blue sky, adding to the splendour. Dev Deepawali, celebrated every year 15 days after Diwali, marks the victory of Lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura. It is also known as the ‘Festival of Lights for the Gods’.

Around 25 Lakh Diyas Lit Across 84 Ghats


According to a report by News On Air, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath lit the first lamp at Namo Ghat, marking the start of the grand celebrations. Around 25 lakh lamps were lit along the 84 ghats of the Ganga River. Out of these, 15 lakh were arranged by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department. The remaining 10 lakh were prepared by local communities and residents of Varanasi, also known as Kashi

Additionally, several temples and buildings were adorned with stunning light decorations. Boats carried pilgrims and tourists across the river, offering them a surreal view of the glowing Kashi. Dev Deepawali in Varanasi is so grand that it attracts tourists from across India and abroad, who visit the city just to witness its magic. As per a report by NDTV, authorities made extensive arrangements to manage the massive inflow of visitors. The measures also ensured the festival went on smoothly and safely.
