Sudden Cloudburst In Uttarakhand On Sunday

As per a report published by India TV, a sudden cloudburst hit the Barkot-Yamunotri area of Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand. At the time, around 17 workers were present at the site where the devastation occurred. According to police, 9 road construction workers are feared to have been swept away. The cloudburst took place along the Yamunotri National Highway in the early hours of Sunday, June 29.

Rescue operations are now in progress by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police teams, who rushed to the spot soon after the incident was reported. However, the cloudburst, heavy rain and massive debris flow have made the rescue efforts quite challenging. An X user @Devesh81403955 also posted these videos showing the ongoing rescue efforts.

Rescue Efforts By The Team Are Still In Progress

Medical teams, fire brigade units and the district administration are also supporting the rescue operations. The teams are continuing their search for the 9 labourers who may be trapped under the debris. Uttarkashi DM Prashant Arya said that around 8-9 workers went missing after the cloudburst damaged a construction site on the Barkot-Yamunotri road. The workers had been staying at an under-construction hotel site. Plus, the Yamunotri Marg has also been affected.

As per the India TV sources, heavy rainfall in Chitrakoot has also led to a rise in the water level of the Mandakini River. Plus, the Badrinath National Highway has also been blocked near Komeda and Nandprayag due to ongoing weather conditions. Both the municipal council and the disaster management teams are continuously keeping an eye to control and monitor it.
