The high Himalayan regions in Uttarakhand are witnessing heavy snowfall, especially in the upper reaches of the Chamoli district. The fresh white snow has blanketed the sacred Badrinath Temple and the surrounding areas. The breathtaking visuals of the snow-covered Badrinath Dham are going viral online, delighting devotees across India. The visuals were also posted on X by the official page of Uttarakhand DIPR.
Not just that, even the surrounding peaks of Neelkanth Parvat and Narayan Parvat were seen draped in fresh white snow. According to a report by India TV, a sharp drop in temperature has been reported in the region. This sudden weather change has brought back severe cold conditions in Badrinath and nearby lower-altitude areas. On January 28, the Kedarnath Temple also witnessed extreme snowfall. During that time, the temperature went down to -16°C!

Char Dham Yatra 2026 To Begin On April 19
According to The Times of India, this type of cold weather is not really uncommon in the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas. Here, winter conditions can persist even when the spring season begins, and the weather becomes warmer. The snowfall has reportedly been happening since the night of March 15, 2026.
Badrinath Temple is a temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is located in the town of Badrinath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. The temple is also one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites. The sacred pilgrimage is all set to begin in April 2026 with the opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya. Kedarnath Temple and Badrinath Temple portals will open shortly after that.
