The rhythm of life in Varkala is different from the chaotic pace of the city. Here at Villa Akasa, you’ll find yourself waking up to the soothing sounds of waves crashing against the cliffs and birds singing in the coconut trees.  As you step through the intricately carved wooden door, you are instantly transported into a world of elegance and tranquillity.

The villa exuded an air of understated opulence. The interiors were thoughtfully designed, seamlessly blending traditional Kerala architecture with modern aesthetics. Polished teakwood furniture, vibrant handwoven fabrics, and antique artefacts adorned the living spaces, creating an ambience that was both inviting and sophisticated.

The villa has five spacious rooms with en suite bathrooms and private verandahs. They have plush sofas and armchairs inviting me to sink in and unwind. The large windows allowed the warm Kerala sunlight to filter in, creating a play of light and shadow that added to the villa’s charm.

The culinary experiences at the villa were a gastronomic delight. Sipping on a tender coconut while watching the sunset over the Arabian Sea is an experience that lingers in one’s memory long after leaving Varkala.

Beyond the villa’s confines, Varkala beckoned with its pristine beaches, mesmerising cliff formations, and vibrant local culture.  Geographically, this region of Kerala is distinct. Because it is the only location in the entire state where cliffs meet the Arabian Sea. The most striking feature of Varkala is its dramatic cliff formation.

As the sun dips below the horizon, the town comes alive. Twenty minutes on foot or a short bicycle ride will get you to the North Cliff, the main tourist area, where you can find some lovely restaurants situated along the cliff edge and little shops. There is a traditional Kerala-style temple nearby that is more than 2,000 years old, steeped in myth and legend.
