John Mountain is a popular celebrity chef who has featured on shows like the Great British Menu. The chef for the past seven years has been living in Australia and running his restaurant, Fyre in Perth. Recently, John Mountain took to social media to announce a ban on all vegans at his restaurant. Read on to know why he did this.

John Mountain Bans Vegans From Fyre Citing Mental Health Reasons

According to an article on PerthNow, John Mountain was recently approached by a young woman who asked him for vegan dishes. While his restaurant doesn’t usually serve vegan dishes, he promised to make the necessary arrangements for her. But John revealed to PerthNow that he was very busy tending to a private party. So, he forgot the promise he made to the vegan woman who dropped by at Fyre on June 17, 2023, Saturday.

What followed steered the course for the eventual ban. The woman, with her promise of vegan dishes, left unfulfilled, returned back home and complained on Fyre’s Facebook page. She criticised the Australian restaurant for serving just one vegan vegetable dish costing $32 (₹1755).

He Told Vegans To Visit A Vegan Restaurant Instead

She went on to state in her review that the lack of vegan options is a testimony to the celebrity chef’s incompetence. And further added that it’s not an option but a necessity for restaurants to have more vegan options and accommodate all types of diners. After this incident, his restaurant faced plenty of negative reviews on social media. Later the celebrity chef posted a message on his social media handles announcing the ban on all vegans from Fyre, for “mental health” reasons.

He also stated to PerthNow that his restaurant, Fyre is not a vegan restaurant. So, if vegans wish to dine they can do so at vegan restaurants, From his point of view the reason for the ban is due to the attitude and rebuttal of vegans.
