On June 27, a terrifying collision between two Vietnam Airlines planes at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi left hundreds of passengers stranded. While there were no injuries reported, the incident resulted in severe tail damage to one of the planes. Here’s all you need to know about this incident.
2 Vietnam Airlines Planes Collide At Hanoi Airport’s Taxiway
According to Gulf News, Vietnam Airlines’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, bound for Ho Chi Minh City, clipped the tail of a stationary Airbus A321 at Hanoi’s Noi Bai International Airport. The Airbus was waiting to depart for Dien Bien when the incident took place at around 2:23 PM (local time).
A video captured the entire taxiway collision and showed severe tail damage to one of the planes. Reports suggest that despite the clear weather, the two Vietnam Airlines planes collided at the intersection of taxiways S and S3.
The Boeing plane’s right wingtip struck the Airbus’s vertical stabiliser. There was debris across the tarmac after the collision and both the Vietnam Airlines planes were grounded, disrupting travel for about 386 passengers on both flights.
All Passengers Deplane Safely
After the two Vietnam Airlines planes collided at the Hanoi Airport, all 386 passengers from both flights returned to Terminal 1. Thankfully, there have been no reports of any injuries to the passengers or crew. The airline rebooked new flights for all the affected passengers.
According to the preliminary reports, the Vietnam Airlines’ Airbus may have stopped short of the designated holding point, which could have been the reason for the collision of the two planes. Investigators have ruled out the possibility of bad weather and are focussing on operational lapses or miscommunication between the pilots and ground controllers during the incident.
