Why Is Hanoi Planning To Stop Trains On Its Famous Cafe Street?

The uniquely thrilling Hanoi Train Street is a popular spot among tourists. It is a place where a high-speed train passes just inches away from residential homes and tourists sitting in cafes. But Hanoi may soon stop trains from running through this viral street. Here’s why.

Hanoi Plans To Stop Trains On Viral Cafe Street

If you doomscroll on Instagram, you might have come across videos showing a train passing very close to tourists sitting in cafes on a narrow street. That is the famous Hanoi Train Street, which attracts many tourists every year. People make videos here and watch trains pass by. The street is undoubtedly viral. But this might soon change. According to The Economic Times, Hanoi is planning to stop passenger trains from running through this well-known railway cafe street.

This decision could end one of Hanoi’s most popular tourist experiences. Officials believe that many visitors stand too close to the railway tracks, which can be dangerous. The proposal submitted by Hanoi’s People’s Committee aims to reroute trains so that they no longer pass through the narrow stretch between Hanoi Railway Station and Long Bien Station, where cafes operate very close to the tracks.

Viral Spot Attracts Large Number Of Visitors Every Year

According to The Economic Times, trains from southern Vietnam would terminate at Hanoi Station, while those from the north would stop at Gia Lam Station. Passengers would then be transferred between these stations by other modes of transport. This would remove the need for trains to run through this section. The area, popularly known as Hanoi Train Street, has gained massive popularity on social media for its views of trains passing through narrow streets close to cafes, with tourists sitting just a few feet away.

Despite repeated restrictions, the location continues to attract a large number of tourists every day. They click photos, make videos, and share them online. Even the local cafes depend heavily on these tourists for business. Many people are supporting this decision for safety reasons, as safety is more important than tourism. However, others are worried that cafes will lose their business.
