Bollywood filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share his concerns about the rising noise pollution caused by to Mumbai Metro. Through his post, he urged authorities to address the issue immediately as it affected the lives of residents residing near the metro stations.
Vivek Agnihotri Enraged By Noise Pollution Caused By Mumbai Metro
Director Vivek Agnihotri directed his post to Ashwini Bhide, Managing Director of the Mumbai Metro Corporation. He stated that the Mumbai Metro has become a “curse for millions of residents”. He attributed the reason to dangerously high sounds caused by the Mumbai Metro, exceeding permissible decibel limits. Agnihotri stated in his post that children were unable to study, residents were unable to sleep and the elderly and the sick were severely affected by the noise pollution.

The filmmaker questioned the balance between development and the quality of life for residents. Agnihotri proposed a solution to curb noise pollution. A solution he proposed was erecting sound-filtering walls along the Metro line and other metro hubs nestled near residential areas.

Urges Government Authorities To Erect Sound-Filtering Walls; Netizens React
Secondly, he questioned the government authorities on why they didn’t display world-class empathy while building world-class infrastructure. He stressed the need to build infrastructure that respected citizens’ basic right to peaceful sleep and health. Thirdly, the filmmaker questioned the people and agencies responsible for the “faulty” metro designs and utter apathy for residents’ basic rights. He ended his post with the hope that his and other citizens’ concerns would be taken seriously by the authorities.
While Ashwini Bhide hasn’t responded to Agnihotri’s post yet, Netizens had mixed opinions. One X user pointed out that even world-class infrastructure like in the USA had similar issues. To which Vivek Agnihotri responded that noise pollution wasn’t a problem in residential areas in the USA. Another person urged the director to show more concern to the dirty and pothole-ridden roads in Mumbai.

the entitlement of the rich and famous ….metro which passes by once in 6 minutes is noisy but the traffic running 24/7 is quiet …million PPL live on both sides of the railway tracks of Mumbai but sirji has a problem with metro noise 🤦
