The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts clear skies for Mumbai on Thursday and anticipates hot and humid conditions throughout the week. The monsoon is expected to reach Maharashtra by around June 9 to 10, with Pune and Mumbai experiencing the onset shortly thereafter. Following the announcement of a nearly on-time monsoon in Kerala around May 31 (with a margin of error of four days), weather experts predict that the monsoon will progress as expected across south peninsular India, the northeast, and Maharashtra.
The Role Of Cyclones In Monsoon Progression
Well-marked Low Pressure Area over westcentral & adjoining south Bay of Bengal moved northeastwards during past 12 hours and lay over the same area at 1730 IST of 23 May. Very likely to concentrate into a Depression over central parts of Bay of Bengal by morning of 24th May. pic.twitter.com/6xnz7g1F2U

Notably, there are no signs of cyclones forming in the Arabian Sea or the Bay of Bengal, which is beneficial for the monsoon’s advancement. Cyclones usually disrupt the monsoon’s path, but their absence means a smoother progression of the monsoon across the regions. The northeast typically welcomes the monsoon season by June 5, with further advancement influenced by additional monsoon pulses.
Current atmospheric conditions include some cyclonic circulations near the Lakshadweep and Comorin areas. Southwest winds should strengthen gradually, and a low-pressure system may develop over the equatorial Indian Ocean by May 26, which could enhance rainfall in south India.

Mumbaikars can expect a pleasant start to the long weekend with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting clear skies for Thursday, May 23rd. This welcome respite follows a period of strong winds and dust storms that swept through the city earlier this month.
The IMD’s forecast promises a sunny start to the long weekend! Mumbaikars can expect clear skies on Thursday, May 23, followed by mostly clear skies on both Friday, May 24, and Saturday, May 25. These clear days present the perfect opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy the pleasant weather. Keep in mind that there’s a chance of partly cloudy skies developing in the afternoon or evening on Sunday, May 26th. As the week progresses, expect partly cloudy skies with haze on both Monday, May 27 and Tuesday, May 28. The haze may reduce visibility slightly, but it shouldn’t dampen your spirits.
