The Dutch Police for years, have trained eagles to take down illegal drones which may put the security of the nation at risk. In 2016, the police joined forces with Guard From Above, a Hague-based raptor-training security firm. Inspired by European nations, Telangana Police will create history by deploying training eagles to intercept illegal drones during public gatherings and VVIP visits.

According to a report by India Today, the Telangana Police has found a solution for the escalating threat of drones during public events and VVIP gatherings. And they have an eagle-eyed focus towards the solution. Taking inspiration from France and the Netherlands, Telangana Police have spent the past three years training eagles to combat illegal drones.

Director General of Police Ravi Gupta and the IPS officers at the Integrated Intelligence Training Academy (IITA)  nestled in Moinabad near Hyderabad, witnessed the recent demonstration. The trained eagles successfully brought down drones in a knick of a time. This is the first police force in India to utilise eagles for such operations.

However, there have been several reports of the Indian Army training kites to combat enemy drones. The India Today report states that the Border Security Force (BSF) has alerted authorities about increased incidents of smuggling happening on the India-Pakistan border. The smuggling of drugs, ammunition and arms has more than doubled since 2021 and is a cause of concern.

Netizen Shared A Video Of Demonstration

X user, @WokePandemic shared a video of the eagles intercepting drones and it’s truly awe-inspiring. In the video, two men are seen operating drones. The eagles follow the drones in the skies, fly above them and catch the drones with their talons. Holding the drones in their talons, they fly back down. So, the trained eagles are able to hunt down the drones before they cause any damage to people or property, especially during public gatherings or in the presence of VVIPs.
It’s the first time in India, a police force has deployed eagles to intercept drones. Let us know what do you think about this unique initiative by Telangana Police.
