At a time when plastic pollution is at an all-time high, it’s absolutely critical to be mindful of the way one disposes of waste, especially the waste from public transport systems. Yet, in a shocking video going viral on the Internet, for all the wrong reasons, a cleaning staff on a train is seen throwing trash out of a moving train. Here’s what actually happened.
Train Cleaning Staff Dispose Trash Out Of Moving Train
An ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) user, Saurabh • A Railfan (@trains_of_india) took to the micro-blogging site to share a shocking video. In the caption, the X user mentions that this was a regular scene in 99 per cent of the trains running on Indian Railways. He goes on to add that he isn’t sure of the protocols and even calls this a failure in the system. Moreover, he adds that thousands of tonnes of waste are dumped on railway tracks daily. @trains_of_india goes on to question who should be held accountable for this.

In the viral video, you can see a cleaner from the Indian Railway’s cleaning staff collecting a massive heap of waste with his broom. There are newspaper pieces, plastic bottles, chips or biscuit wrappers. Then, he does the unthinkable! The cleaner goes on to throw the waste outside the moving train. The garbage is shoved outside the door and falls on the railway track as the train runs at high speed. A couple of onlookers just watch him throwing trash out of the moving train, without stepping in to even stop him.

Netizens Shocked & Share Opinions
Saurabh • A Railfan shared another video which shows another cleaner sweeping trash and also throwing it out of a moving train. The X user goes on to add that this is a common practice in most trains except for Vande Bharat and Tejas trains. Apart from highlighting the problem he also lists solutions. What are they? First, conduct regular audits on the waste collected from a particular train. Then, give bonuses to workers and managers for the waste collected. Finally, add automatic doors in all trains, which he admitted would take a long time.
