Geeta Basra Believes Bollywood Has Become A Better Place For Women As Actresses Can Choose Both Career & Family

Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, was invited by actress and wife of cricketer Harbhajan Singh, Geeta Basra, to their beautiful home. Over home-cooked Punjabi comfort food and Gujarati delicacies, the duo had heart-to-heart conversations that revolved around family, food and fun. The actress even spoke about women being able to balance both their careers and families.

Geeta Basra Treats Kamiya Jani To Homecooked Punjabi & Gujarati Meal

After giving us a home tour and sitting down with us for a chat about her childhood in the UK, Bollywood dreams and more, Geeta Basra prepared Parathas for Kamiya Jani. Later, the duo sat down for a meal of Patra, Rajma-Chawal, Parathas, Dhoklas and other healthy home-cooked dishes. Geeta revealed that she loves Patras, which she often enjoys with tea.

While enjoying the meal, Kamiya asked Geeta about her taking a break from Bollywood to embrace motherhood. What did she feel about keeping her ambitions aside for her personal life? “The mindset of this industry was very different 15 years ago,” she replied. Geeta believes that women are living in what she calls “the best time.”

Talks About Women Being Able To Choose Both Career And Family

“Women now have the opportunity to choose between this and that, not this or that,” she said. Geeta reflected on her Bollywood stint when even being romantically linked to an actor offscreen would spell career doom. Being raised in the UK by a businesswoman, she never understood why women had to compromise on their careers for their families.

She recollected four films being taken out of her hands as she was getting married. “A lot of opportunities came out of my hands. I was taken out of a lot of projects because I was getting married,” she said. The actor ruminates about the lack of support she received from the film industry. Today, Geeta appreciates how things have become better for women working in the film industry in India. Women today can be married, have children, be in a live-in relationship and still work on the films they want to. The actress revealed that her upcoming Punjabi film, Meher, is all about women bravely choosing to follow their dreams.
