Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, was in Vadodara with Archana Jahagirdar, the founder and managing partner of Rukam Capital, for an episode of Stories From Bharat. Both were exploring the cultural city for the first time. They had to do it the right way and began the culinary adventure with some delicious sev usal, Vadodara’s famous street food! From talking about Khadi and marketing to funding, we covered it all.
Archana Jahagirdar Visited The Khadi Market Of Vadodara
After marvelling at the stunning Laxmi Vilas Palace and exploring the famous eateries of Vadodara, it was time to visit the famous Khadi Market. Khadi is a hand-spun natural fibre cloth and Gujarat is known for producing great-quality khadi textiles. We witnessed the various handicraft items, clothes, purses, and more that were made and designed by skilled local artisans.
Archana Jahagirdar then spoke about the importance of marketing in recent times. With the Internet in every part of the world, it allows businesses to reach a large audience. Homegrown Khadi brands could easily take advantage of it and reach a wider audience.
Our guest added, “Every business has an ideology and that is what the customer buys. You are not just selling a product, you are selling an emotion!” On hearing this, Kamiya commented, “I have read business has two pillars – innovation and marketing. Today, you confirmed this for us.”

Top Investing Markets In India
Kamiya was curious to know which sectors are flourishing in India. Archana Jahagirdar shared that Gen Z and Millennials are going crazy over skincare and beauty products. Both these markets are rapidly growing and with the right marketing, companies are profiting.
She mentioned how Gen Z and Millennial folks are living their lives differently. They are putting in more effort, spending more money and taking care of themselves rather than doing things without reason. She mentioned “Beauty, personal care, jewellery, pet care” because “more [people] have disposable income,” and it appeals to individuals.
Along with this, AI is also said to drastically change the world. Thus, marketing is a massive tool for businesses. That is an interesting take, Archana!
