The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a detailed forecast that shows major changes in weather in different parts of India. This includes heavy rain, hailstorms, and heat waves in states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Delhi. Citizens and farmers are recommended to remain up-to-date and take the required precautions to counter impending effects.
IMD Weather Forecast Highlights
As per the IMD weather forecast, above-normal maximum temperatures are expected over the majority of India from April to June. Exceptions include some parts of the west peninsular region and scattered pockets in the east-central and eastern parts of India, where normal maximum temperatures will prevail.
The temperature forecast also suggests that above-average minimum temperatures would dominate most of the country, except some isolated parts in far northwest India, where normal minimum temperatures would prevail.
As reported by Krishi Jagran, a cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra, along with moisture-bearing winds from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is likely to induce rainfall in several regions. Thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in some states during the first week of April.
Rainfall and Thunderstorm Forecast (April 2-7, 2025):
- Gujarat, Telangana (April 2): Gusty winds of 30-60 kmph in thunderstorms.
- Central India, Odisha, Maharashtra, Marathwada (April 2-4): Thunderstorms and lightning.
- Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, and Karnataka (Apr 2-5): Sustained windy conditions.
- Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Rayalaseema (Apr 2-5): Lightning and thunderstorms.

Hailstorm Warnings For Multiple States
Changing weather patterns are likely to result in hailstorms across various states. Farmers in the stricken regions need to be ready to cover their crops from potential damage.
Hailstorm Forecast (Apr 2-4, 2025):
- Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada (Apr 2): Hailstorm expected.
- Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana (April 2-3): Hailstorms are expected.
- North Interior Karnataka (April 2-4): Hailstorms are expected.
- Jharkhand (April 3): Hailstorms are expected.
- Odisha, Coastal Karnataka (Apr 3-4): Hailstorms are expected.
More Heatwave Days Expected
The IMD weather prediction foresees an increase in the number of heatwave days in the coming season. Areas like Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and northern Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are likely to witness an increased number of heat waves.
The IMD weather forecast expects that in April 2025, countrywide rainfall will be normal, between 88% and 112% of the long-period average of 39.2 mm.
Above-normal to normal rainfall is expected over most areas of northwest India, peninsular India, northeast India, and parts of west-central India. Below-normal rainfall is expected in other regions of the country.
