WeRide took to X to announce that it has launched fully driverless taxi operations in Abu Dhabi, a first in the region. Yes, the UAE capital has become home to a commercial fleet of taxis that features no driver onboard. So, now you can basically hop onto a WeRide Robotaxi, and this service extends to the Al Maryah Island and Reem Island as well. The Service Is Available In Other Areas Of Abu Dhabi
At this point, it’s worth noting these zones have expanded the company’s driverless empire. This driverless taxi service already covers Yas Island, connects to the Zayed International Airport, and Saadiyat Island. This comes after WeRide was granted the country’s first national self-driving vehicle license in 2023. In fact, in December 2024, this company even teamed up with Uber in order to launch the region’s largest robotaxi service.
So, basically, this taxi solution is perfect for people who like to drive to their destination in a comfortable silence. With no polite small talk to make with anyone, you can reflect on your thoughts or plan for that important board meeting on your way. Additionally, the company announced that they are also expanding commercial services to other areas and this showcases their technological maturity. Thereby, moving them closer to the mass commercialisation of driverless taxis.
