Delhi Police Relaunch App That Empowers Citizens To Identify Traffic Violators
As per an article by India Today, the Delhi Police has attempted to make Delhiites part of the solution to Delhi’s incessant traffic woes. To reduce the chaos on the capital’s sadak, the police have brought back the Traffic Prahari app, which empowers residents to take the front seat and play an active role in reporting traffic violations like drunk driving, rash driving and more.
The Traffic Prahari app permits residents to report traffic violations in real time. By becoming real-time traffic monitors, citizens can not just play their part in becoming good Samaritans in the city but also get rewarded for doing the right thing. By reporting rash driving, they can help save lives and prevent accidents. By doing their civic duty and contributing to Delhi’s road safety mission, they can win a barrage of points.

Good Samaritans To Be Empowered With Cash & Rewards
While this traffic app was launched in 2015, the revamped version comes with a new structured approach and upgraded features. Users can report, illegal parking, rash driving, road rage, dangerous overtaking, wrong-side driving, and red light skipping, among other violations. All one needs to do is either click a picture or record a video through the app and report it. On the report being verified and found valid, citizens can be citizen journalists and be empowered with cash rewards and other incentives.
The reason Delhi needs a Traffic Prahari is that the city has topped many charts for road accident-related deaths. Several improvements in the infrastructure and enforcement have been made by the police are unable to be everywhere all at once. That’s where citizen-powered policing came into play. If you’re worried about your identity being disclosed on the app, then don’t worry! The app won’t reveal any identity. Moreover, only factual, non-manipulated videos and photographs will be permitted. The violator must not be confronted, but the incident must be documented and reported.
How Can You Become A Traffic Prahari?
- To become Traffic Prahari, download the Traffic Prahari app in the Google Play Store (iOS version to be released later)
- Sign in with your ID and phone number.
- When you witness a traffic violation, capture a photo or video of the incident using the in-app camera.
- When you click photos or record videos, ensure the locations and number plates are clearly visible.
- Upload the report and track it till it gets verified.
- If it’s found valid, you will be notified and later rewarded.
- Depending on the type of violation of evidence, you can cash or recognition for your good deeds.
