What Is Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha Mahotsav?
According to Shree Simandharswami Digambar Jin Mandir, the Panchkalyanak Pratishtha festival is one of the most important occasions for the Jain community. Thousands of people come together to celebrate this occasion that lasts for up to a week. During this celebration, stone and metal statues of Tirthankars are brought as only idols until the ‘pratishtha’ is carried out. After this, each idol becomes a worshippable murti of Tirthankar.
The festival is celebrated with full gusto in the village of Oon in Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. This place is renowned as the site of four great Jain monks, and as the place where Lord Mahavir Swami manifested. During Panch Kalyanak Pratishtha Mahotsav, more than 50,000 devotees are expected to arrive from across the world at Khargone. Devotees pray for ‘Moksha’ during this Mahotsav. It is believed that while praying during the festivities, an ‘Atma’ becomes ‘Parmatma’ and shows mortals the process of attaining eternal bliss.
