Aquatic creatures are fascinating as it is. Humans have barely scratched the surface when it comes to discovering what’s under the deep blue sea. Recently, the dynamic actor Leonardo DiCaprio shared an image of an eel that has taken the Internet by storm. If you’re wondering what is so special about this particular eel, we’re here to tell you. It is now called Pathala Eel Loach and surprisingly, it is a new species discovered in Kerala.
What Is Pathala Eel Loach And Why Is Leonardo DiCaprio Interested In It?
The story starts in Kerala. Abraham from Chengannur was taking a shower in his home. He suddenly spotted a slimy worm-like creature and decided to capture it in a car. He was fascinated by the creature and decided to inform the Kerala Universities of Fisheries and Ocean Studies or the KUFOS.
There they identified the eel as the new species of what is known as Eel loaches. It is called Pathala eel loach. Pathala in Sanskrit means below the fish. The name is apt since the fish is subterranean.
The famous actor Leonardo DiCaprio took to his Instagram account and shared the image of this newly discovered fish. Along with it, in the caption, he paid his respects to the wild. Commenting on how it was discovered, he states sometimes, to discover new wild species, all it takes is going about one’s day.

About Eel Loaches
The actor’s caption on the pic also briefly described how the new species was discovered. He briefly highlighted that the species was found in Kerala after Abraham captured it while showering. It is, without a doubt, one of the most thrilling discoveries in India.
Eel loaches are also called Pangio Anguillaris. They are found in the freshwaters of Indochina, Borneo and the Malay Peninsula. The newly discovered species are called Pangio Pathala.
Leonardo DiCaprio is known for his climate activism. He actively speaks out about the dangers of climate change and is one of the leading advocates of environment-friendly initiatives.
