Indian Railways is one of the most common and widely used transportation systems in India. However, it has its challenges as well. From selecting a suitable train schedule to reserving a ticket, it can be a hectic process, especially during the festive season. Many people book train tickets weeks in advance to secure seats, but some still miss out on the opportunity. But how do people book tickets so well in advance? It’s because of the ARP allotted by the Indian Railways. However, the Indian railways have reduced the advance reservation period from 120 days to 60 days starting next month.
What is The Advance Reservation Period (ARP) Of Indian Railways?
The advance reservation period of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is the number of advance days, or a 120-day (60-day starting in November) time period in which passengers can book tickets beforehand according to their trip, excluding the days of departure.
The Advance Reservation Period (ARP) is determined by the date of the journey from the train’s originating station.
What Are The Different Types Of ARP?
Different tickets have different periods of booking. Normal tickets can be booked up to 120 days in advance; Tatkal tickets can be booked one day in advance (for specific trains). Further, the foreign tourist quota tickets can be booked up to 365 days in advance, and Suvidha trains have a maximum of 12 days ARP. The ARP for intercity day trains is less than 60 days.
When it comes to online bookings, the advance reservation period given by Indian Railways has been 60 days before the journey date. Online booking is not available between 8 AM and 12 PM when the booking opens.
