Kanyakumari, the coastal town and tourist gem in Tamil Nadu, captivates visitors with its natural beauty. It’s one of the top tourist destinations in India, and if you’re planning to visit this place soon, don’t forget to add the glass bridge to your itinerary. It is India’s first-ever glass bridge, built over the sea, beautifully connecting two of Kanyakumari’s iconic landmarks. Here’s everything you need to know before visiting.
Kanyakumari Glass Bridge, India’s First Glass Bridge Over The Sea
The famous glass bridge in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, is 77 metres (252 feet) long and 10 metres wide. To visit the two landmarks — the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue — you can walk across this glass fibre footover bridge.
It was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on December 30, 2024. The bridge offers one of the best views of the ocean and its surroundings. As you walk on this glass bridge, you’ll get a 360-degree view of the meeting point of the Arabian Sea, the Bay of Bengal, and the Indian Ocean. It also offers a breathtaking view of the memorial and the statue. With its dazzling lights at night, the experience becomes truly unforgettable.
This must-visit place in Kanyakumari was built at a cost of ₹37 crore with an aim to boost tourism in the city. It was built using the latest technology and is eco-friendly. The best part is the anti-slip flooring that ensures the safety of the visitors.
Best Time To Visit
The best time to visit this iconic place is from October to March. It’s perfect to enjoy pleasant weather and cool winds. It’s advisable to avoid visiting this place during the summer and rainy season because of excessive heat and heavy rainfall.
