Many European nations, including Norway, Sweden, Finland, the Baltic republics, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus, and northeastern Poland, celebrate a white Christmas, which is defined as a Christmas with at least one inch of snow on the ground. Snowfall, Christmas folklore, the Northern Lights in Iceland, and snowfall in mountainous areas like the Carpathian Mountains and Alps are all characteristics of this holiday.

At Christmas, there might be snow on the ground or snowfall in northern European towns, including Bergen, Milan, and Turku. The imagery and snowfall associated with Christmas are believed to be the result of traditional stories, songs, and artwork.
