The allure of tropical paradises has long captivated the hearts and imaginations of travellers. In India, tourists are excitedly preparing for their upcoming vacation, and August offers the perfect opportunity for a longer holiday. For the Independence Day long weekend, two destinations stand out as the most searched and desired: Goa in India and Bali in Indonesia.

Digital travel platform Agoda examined its search data in mid-August, a few days away from both Independence Day and Raksha Bandhan. The study says that there are over 2.5 times (266%) more queries than there were at the same time the previous year.

For the long weekend, Goa is the most popular domestic destination for travellers hoping to relax if they’re looking for an adventure closer to home. Goa is closely followed by the tranquil hill resort of Lonavala and the stunning lakes and royal palaces of Udaipur. The final two spots on the list, Wayanad and Coorg, provide peaceful getaways amidst verdant surroundings and coffee plantations.

Around the world, Bali is still a top choice because of its amazing beaches, amazing diving spots, and vibrant nightlife. Singapore, which is well-known for both its world-class attractions and dynamic city life, follows closely. Thailand now has three of the top five slots, with Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya, respectively, because of its recent visa waiver program.

Additionally, free breakfast, star ratings, user reviews, and free cancellation are popular filters that travellers look for when booking holidays. Agoda’s user-friendly search options simplify the trip planning process.

For Indian travellers, both Goa and Bali offer cost-effective holiday options. Goa, being a domestic destination, eliminates the need for international travel expenses, making it an affordable choice. Bali, despite being an international destination, offers a range of budget-friendly accommodations, dining options, and activities. Bangkok’s vibrant markets, mouthwatering food, and historical landmarks contribute to its enduring popularity. The beach towns of Phuket and Pattaya draw visitors looking for leisure and scenic views in addition to a vibrant nightlife.

Long weekends present a unique opportunity for individuals and families to take a break from their daily routines and explore new destinations. The extended time off allows for travel that is often not feasible during shorter weekends, making it an ideal period for mini-vacations.

So, where are you heading to for the long weekend?
