3 Indian Cities Among World’s 20 Most Populated Cities

July 11 is observed as World Population Day across the world. The day aims to raise awareness about the impact of the global population and its issues. This year, as per the latest United Nations World Urbanisation Prospects, three Indian cities have made it to the list of the World’s 20 Most Populated Cities. Cementing its place at number 2, Delhi emerged as the most populous city in India.

With a population of 33,807,403, Delhi has observed a 2.34% population growth from last year. On the world list, Mumbai was placed in the 9th position. It reported a population growth of 1.50%, with 21,673,149 living in the city in 2024. On number 18, Kolkata was the third Indian city in the World’s 20 Most Populated Cities. The city’s population was 15,570,786 with a 1.08% population growth since 2023.
