An Indian woman and content creator named Ananya recently shared an Instagram video about her experience of poor treatment and disrespect from a staff member at a Peter Pane Burgergrill & Bar in Germany. The clip is now going viral and has once again sparked a discussion on social media about racism. The restaurant has also responded to the incident. Here’s what actually happened.

An Indian content creator, Ananya (@ananyastruggles), who lives in Germany, has alleged that she and her friend were treated poorly at a Peter Pane Burgergrill & Bar outlet at Warnemünde Beach in Rostock. She shared that she might have experienced “racism” for the first time in Germany. She visited the outlet with one of her friends. Ananya said that in restaurants in Germany, hosts are usually present at the entrance and tell you if a table is available before seating you.
So, when Ananya and her friend entered the restaurant, there was no host and they waited at the booth for five minutes. A German family also arrived, but instead of waiting, they went straight inside the restaurant and sat at a table. Confused, Ananya and her friend also decided to enter the restaurant.

Restaurant Responds To The Viral Video
Even after entering, they both waited and saw a man, the host, walking towards them with a grumpy face. He allegedly told them in a rude tone, “You know you are not supposed to come in here, right? You are actually supposed to stand there and wait.”
Ananya politely replied that they had been waiting for a couple of minutes before coming inside. But the host allegedly started raising his voice and said, “You just waited 10 seconds.” He then allegedly taunted them by saying, “You guys must be really hungry,” with a mocking expression. The host also allegedly yelled at them and said that they were lying about waiting at the booth.
He then gave them a table, slammed the menus and allegedly started complaining about them to other customers in German. Ananya and her friend, feeling disrespected, decided to walk out of the restaurant.
The Peter Pane Burgergrill & Bar responded to Ananya’s video with an apology and wrote, “We just saw your video about your experience at Peter Pane. First of all, we sincerely apologise that you had such a negative experience with us. We are truly sorry that you did not feel welcome and respected. We take your experience very seriously and are already in contact with the restaurant to understand what happened.”
Netizens were quite angry too, and wrote comments like, “This is normalised in Germany, but I’m so happy you spoke about this. You are not alone,” and “Glad you walked out, had something similar when we went to Italy – Tirano, the restaurant owner was very shitty.”
