Driverless cars sound like things of the future, don’t they? Well, not anymore! We say this because you can now hail driverless taxis in certain areas of Abu Dhabi. Yes, this includes routes to and from Zayed International Airport. Here’s all you need to know about this development related to driverless cabs!
Driverless Cabs From Zayed International Airport
Abu Dhabi Mobility has expanded its autonomous vehicle service to more areas in the city. Now, they’re offering driverless rides to and from the Zayed International Airport. As revealed in a report by Khaleej Times, the autonomous vehicle service will be available in more areas. This will be after the services complete 30,000 trips and cover a distance of over 4,30,000 km.
Uber or TXAI users scan book the driverless trips. Not to mention, authorities have also conducted the first of the autonomous operation, and it will be in the Yas and Saadiyat Islands. On the successful trial, the transport department will now expand driverless rides to access roads to and from Zayed International Airport. The expansion is also a part of smart transport by promoting the use of advanced technology mobility.

Abu Dhabi Mobility Has Increased The Percentage Of Trips
As it happens, Abu Dhabi Mobility is partnering with Space 42 and Uber in order to operate these driverless taxis in the city. The company also plans to expand to new areas gradually in the Emirate. Through its current plan, the aim is to develop the autonomous mobility sector. Yes, Abu Dhabi Mobility aims to achieve objectives by 2040. This includes an increase in the percentage of trips that use autonomous vehicles to 25% of the total trips in Abu Dhabi.
In fact, data testing autonomous vehicles in collaboration with its partners. During this testing, it’s overseeing operational processes and that it complies with all the traffic laws and regulations. Moreover, it’s also seeking to increase public awareness of such services in order to encourage the adoption of this service. These seem to be quite a safe way to travel as ever since its launch, no incidents have been recorded.
