Swiggy, one of India’s leading online food delivery platforms, has introduced a new feature to make digital payments faster and more seamless. On August 14, Swiggy announced the launch of ‘Swiggy UPI’, an in-app payment solution designed to simplify the payment process for customers. This service is powered by the National Payments Corporation of India’s (NPCI) digital payments solution and is integrated through Juspay’s HyperUPI Plugin.
Swiggy’s New One-Step UPI Feature
The new feature allows users to complete their payments without the need to be redirected to third-party UPI apps. Previously, the payment process required several steps, including switching between different apps. Now, with Swiggy UPI, users can complete transactions directly within the Swiggy app, reducing the process to just one step.
The introduction of Swiggy UPI represents a significant improvement in transaction times. Previously, completing a UPI payment could take over 15 seconds due to the need to switch apps and confirm details. Now, with the streamlined process, customers can complete their payments in just 5 seconds. This reduction in time makes the payment process not only quicker but also more enjoyable for users.
One-Time Setup Process
To start using Swiggy UPI, customers need to go through a one-time setup process. This involves linking their bank account by visiting the payment page within the Swiggy app and selecting Swiggy UPI as their payment option. Once this setup is complete, customers will only need to enter their UPI PIN for all subsequent transactions, making future payments even faster.
Swiggy has also made sure that the new system is as user-friendly as possible. The in-house plugin immediately informs users of any issues during the payment process, such as insufficient funds or incorrect credentials. This allows customers to quickly resolve any problems and complete their transactions without unnecessary delays.
The launch of Swiggy UPI comes at a time when UPI transactions are on the rise in India. In July alone, the total value of UPI-based transactions reached ₹20.64 lakh crore, up from ₹20.07 lakh crore in June. The number of transactions also increased, with a 4% month-on-month rise to 14.44 billion in July.
