You Will Now Be Allowed To Trek To The Glaciers Of Uttarakhand’s Kumaon

The Uttarakhand Tourism Department announced great news for all the trekkers and adventure enthusiasts. The department is now permitting trekkers to climb the Karni, Pindari, and Sunderdhunga glaciers in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon. When Can One Trek In Glaciers In Uttarakhand’s Kumaon?

  • The glaciers in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region are accessible for trekking only between 15 April to 15 June 2022.
  • After this period, the trek routes will be closed for everyone because of the monsoon season.
  • It will reopen again from 15 September to 15 October post the monsoon season.

This Trek Is A Boost For The Travel Industry

The initiation of trekking in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region will be a huge boost for the trekking industry. The past 2 years have been the toughest for the travel and tourism department. All the adventurous activities came to a halt because of the pandemic. In fact, the department started the trekking procedure here after the second wave but unfortunately, the result was not at all satisfying. But now as things are coming under control and there is an ease in travel restrictions, the department is expecting a positive response and an increase in visitors.

Prior to the pandemic, around 3000 trekkers visited this region to explore every year. With the growth in the travel industry now, every local people associated with it will also be benefited.

Lata Bisht, District Tourism Officer of Pithoragarh, stated that it is a mandate for all the visitors to register themselves with the state forest department prior to proceeding with the trek. All they need to do is visit the department’s Kapkot centre and register themselves.
