Bengalureans rejoice! It’s time to hit down the nostalgia-filled roads again with double-decker bus rides. After Mumbai’s BEST, Bengaluru’s Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will introduce double-decker AC electric buses to the city. A nostalgic bus ride for old timers or a chance to up the selfie game for Gen Z, everyone has a reason to cheer.
Bengaluru To Get 10 AC Electric Double Decker Buses
Bengaluru last witnessed double-decker buses in 1997. While they were a rage and a daily sight in the 1970s and 1980s, they slowly weaned out from the roads. And from Bengalureans memories, too. But now, Bengaluru roads will welcome a total of 10 AC electric double-decker buses. BMTC director (IT) AV Surya Sen revealed to Times of India that the amount for five buses has been sanctioned. Moreover, the authorities are currently identifying bus routes for the same.

These Buses May Face Logistical Challenges
The Union Ministry of forest and climate change sanctioned ₹140 crores to BBMP for launching environment-friendly buses on the streets of Bengaluru. The Centre assigned another ₹20 crores to electrify 15 bus depots for the double-decker electric buses. While steps have been taken for the same, the operation may face some obstacles. Bengaluru’s poor road conditions, due to incessant rains and tree branches, may cause disturbances in the operations.
