North Sikkim Guide For Every Traveller

What To Know About North Sikkim

Firstly, you must know that you need a permit to visit North Sikkim. Being a permit-protected area, this part of Sikkim can only be accessed by Indian travellers. North Sikkim has some of the most beautiful mountain ranges and lakes in India, which makes it a must-visit. If you are planning to travel solo or plan the trip by yourself, you can obtain the permit by visiting the DC office in Gangtok. For those travelling with a company, the company will arrange all the permits for you.

Places To Visit

North Sikkim mainly has two points of interest- Lachen and Lachung. Lachen and Lachung further have several points of interest. Kalla Pathar, Gurudongmar Lake are visited from Lachen. Zero Point, Mt. Katao and Yumthang Valley is accessed from Lachung. The mid-point for both these places is Chumthang. And while you travel from Gangtok(East Sikkim) to North, there’ll be several waterfalls like- Seven Sister’s Waterfall, Amitabh Bachchan Waterfall, Naga Waterfall, Butterfly Waterfall, etc.

Things To Keep In Mind While Travelling Here

This part of Sikkim has limited stay options, the network keeps fluctuating, and several points are 12000ft above sea level. So if you have any health issues or if you travel with your parents/senior citizens, ensure that you carry oxygen cans with you.

Number Of Days Needed

3-days are enough to enjoy and explore this part of Sikkim. However, you must keep in mind- that at any cost, if you feel a bit under the weather, don’t stress yourself. With the lack of medical facilities, taking care of your health is important.
