Yuvraj Singh Talks About Cricket, Family & Food Over Sunday Brunch At His New Restaurant, Koca

This Sunday, Curly Tales had the pleasure of visiting Yuvraj Singh’s first-ever restaurant, Koca, in Gurugram. As the first guest at the restaurant, our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani sat and enjoyed a delicious Sunday Brunch with the man of the hour and his mother Shabnam Singh. From adorable childhood memories to opening up about his cricket career, the mother-son duo opened up like never before. Here’s how it all went down.

Sunday Brunch At Koca, Yuvraj Singh’s New Restaurant

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh has been an inspiration to millions of Indians! From hitting six sixers in an over to helping India lift the ODI World Cup despite struggling with cancer, his career has been one for the books. So, when he ventured into the hospitality industry and decided to open his first restaurant in Gurugram, we knew we had to be in the first row to cheer him up for his new endeavour.

KOCA, short for Kitchen of Celebratory Arts, is born out of Yuvraj Singh’s love for food. The restaurant offers six different cuisines and of course, it has Yuvi’s favourite Kadhi Chawal as well! We were joined by Yuvi’s mom Shabnam ji and she spoke about his love for food as a kid, his rebellious streak, and more.

Yuvraj Singh has been vocal about his cancer journey and we asked him how he overcame that phase of his life. “I was at the peak of my career when that happened. It took a lifetime of effort and hard work to come back from there and play for India. It literally took another life out of me to come back and play again, and it was not easy. It did inspire a lot of people who were going through the same phase. As a human, I prevailed. I am happy that I have been able to inspire a whole generation with my story,” he candidly shared.

Why Are Shubman Gill & Abhishek Sharma Petrified Of Yuvi?

While Yuvraj Singh inspired lots of people, there are a few people in his life who are petrified of him! Shabnam ji revealed that young cricketers Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are petrified of him. “Like mom used to get nervous when I was batting, I get nervous when Abhishek and Shubman are batting. I have spent a lot of time with them,” Yuvraj Singh admits.
