On Sunday, Zomato took to its X (formerly Twitter) handle to urge its customers to avoid ordering food during peak afternoons unless it’s absolutely necessary. This post went viral in no time garnering 190.1k views and many comments. However, it garnered mixed reactions because some foodies appreciated this considerable gesture by the food delivery aggregator but many others sighted this as an inconvenience.
@sundayback13 commented that people order food only when it’s absolutely necessary for them. Moreover, the X user stated that if the brand really cared for its employees it would rather make their services unavailable during peak afternoon hours. @theskindoctor13 also suggested Zomato disband its services during peak afternoon to prevent its employees from falling ill due to heatwaves.
Netizens Suggest Mandatory Heatwave Tips 7 Halting Services During Peak Hours
@imparixit appreciated the concern but retorted that lunchtime orders couldn’t be postponed to dinner time. And the onus of filtering absolutely necessary orders from not-so-necessary ones needed to be on the food delivery aggregator.
@KunalKhattar pointed out that the delivery executives would lose out the most if people avoided ordering during afternoon peak hours. Instead, he suggested the platform to add a mandatory heat-related tip or hardship charge to every order placed in the afternoon. This way, the riders could make extra money.
Few Netizens lauded this initiative and pointed out that they decided to eat Maggi and cook at home instead of troubling delivery executives amid the soaring temperatures. Another X user hailed the riders for delivering food amid heavy rains in Hyderabad.
